Love Walks Away

"I love you but..."
"Why does there have to be a but? Why can't we just be in love? I love you so much," she whispers, wiping tears from her eyes.
"I don't want to hurt you by mistake... We aren't ready for this," he tells her.
He takes her hand into his. Her heart skips a beat as she stares into his eyes. They get closer and he kisses her cheek before walking away, letting her hand slip from his. "Good-bye," he says, looking back at her.
She stands there, frozen with her arm reaching out towards him. Desperately crying out for him but her voice won't work. Finally, he disappears into the distance and she falls to her knees. "Don't go," she whispers into the emptiness.
She stares at the sky, watching as the light fades into darkness. "I was ready... You hurt me by leaving.... I... I..."
She can't keep talking. She kneels there, trembling as sobs take over her body. The night grows longer and she still doesn't move. She's too shocked to do anything. "WHY?" she finally screams at the sky. "Why did you take him from me?"
She pushes herself off the cold ground, wrapping her arms around her body, trying to keep warm.She begins to walk home, letting her feet guide her, unable to do anything but think of why he might have left. "I wasn't good enough," she murmurs. "I wasn't pretty enough... I wasn't enough."
